Coordinated Law Enforcement Effort Captures Man Fleeing Pursuit

The pursuit ended, without damage to property or injury to persons.

On Friday, April 1, at 11:54 p.m., the Mexia Police Department located a vehicle on State Highway 171, near Mexia, that had been involved in a pursuit a few minutes earlier in Hill County, according to a MPD press release.

Hill County authorities terminated the pursuit and advised surrounding law enforcement agencies with a description of the suspect's vehicle. MPD officers subsequently confirmed the suspect’s vehicle was in Mexia, located and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle failed to yield which prompted a pursuit.  The pursuit ended, without damage to property or injury to persons, in the 200 block of Carthage Street in Mexia.

The suspect is identified as 24 year-old Alvarado Hernandez of Mexia. Hernandez resisted officers as they attempted to take him into custody. Despite his attempts to flee, Hernandez was ultimately arrested and transported to the Limestone County Jail in Groesbeck.

Hernandez was examined by Emergency Medical Technicians from the Mexia Fire/EMS Department, after his arrest and was released back to custody. Hernandez is charged with "evading arrest in a motor vehicle", which is a third-degree felony, and "evading arrest", which is a Class A Misdemeanor.

"This is yet another outstanding example of cooperation and coordination between our local law enforcement agencies, the Limestone County Communications Center, and the Mexia Fire/EMS Department,” Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty said. “A dangerous person was quickly and safely taken into custody as a result of the prompt, professional actions of these agencies.”

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available.
