The Democracy versus Autocracy contest continues. Just a few years ago the general view was those fine fellows like Vladimir Putin and China’s premier knew how to get things done, while in America we just talked until we tied ourselves in knots while never accomplishing anything. Just like Mussolini, they could make the trains run on time. A significant portion of the American electorate expressed admiration for Putin as a strong leader, even though he might have to kill a few people from time to time who disagreed with him. When he called his advisors together to express their opinion about attacking Ukraine, they all nodded their head like bobblehead dolls. Now the military is ruined along with their economy. Just before this happened, China was licking their chops looking at grabbing Taiwan and now thinking but for the grace of God they could be in the same shape as Vlad.
To the delight of diehard baseball fans, Opening Day is here. But MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and the players union have agreed to so many preposterous rule changes that fans might have trouble recognizing the game they once revered as the national pastime.
Eligible Texas voters who have not done so already have until April 7 to register to vote in the May 7 statewide constitutional amendment election, as well as any local elections for city, school districts and other local entities.
