Welton Thomas

T homas Welton Thomas was the sixth child born to J.C. Thomas and Willie Ora McKisic on April 6, 1948, in Coolidge, Limestone County. He attended elementary school in Oak Hill, Sandy Community, and graduated from high school in Coolidge.

After graduating high school, he moved to Dallas and worked at Siemens. In 1992 he moved to Mexia to be near his parents.

Welton enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; his passion was working on cars. He had maintained this passion from a teenager until his health began to fail.

Welton was a faithful member of Ford Chapel Baptist Church until his health failed.

Welton was called home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2022, surrounded by loving family. His daily morning phone calls to see how everyone was doing will be missed.

Welton is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Willie Ora Thomas; sister, Annoah “Elnora” Thomas Ross son, Ilyas.

Those who will cherish his memories are his loving and devoted friend, Rosa Miles; his daughters, Yolanda Michelle Booker and LaTeefah Jackson (Taurus); grandchildren, Joseph Green (Christina), Day-Quon Thomas Robinson, D’Kaylon Decker, Yazmine Jackson and SaVanna Jackson; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Green and Winter Marie Robinson; brothers, Alvin Ray Thomas of Waco, James C. Thomas Jr. (Rosie) of Coolidge, Willie James Thomas of Mexia, Samuel Thomas (Annette) of Coolidge; sisters, Minnie Bluitt, Dorothy Johnson (Danny) and Elmarvis Harris, all of Mexia; one special aunt, Lilor Brackens of Dallas; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Westside Church of Christ of Mexia. Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
