Sammmie Lee Davis

Mrs. Sammie Lee Davis, of Wortham, passed away at her residence on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, among loving family and devoted friends.

Viewing was to be Friday, Feb. 22, at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home in Teague, with the family present 6-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton in Mexia, with the Rev. Claude Jackson officiating and Minister Betty Macklin as eulogist. Interment will be in the Sessions Cemetery in Kirvin.

On Aug. 4, 1937, in Wrinkler, to the proud parentage of Sam and Ruthie Randle, they had a daughter and named her Sammie Lee.

Sammie married the late Rev. L.A. Davis on Dec. 24, 1977. With this union they joined together a family of 22 children.

Mother Davis attended school at F.W. Wheeler in Wortham, and she enjoyed participating in their school reunions. She was employed for many years at the Mexia State School and retired from there.

Mother Davis was a woman of great faith. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and trusted Him until the end. As she was known so well throughout the community, Mrs. Davis held office in many organizations. She was an avid member of the F.W. Wheeler Ex-Student Association. Being married to the Rev. Davis, she was the mother of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church for many, many years. Mother Davis thoroughly enjoyed gardening and tending to her yard and was a member of the Wortham Garden Club. She was also involved in the Eastern Star of the Olive Grand Chapter and the Wortham Housing Authority.

Those who precede Mother Davis in death include her parents, her husband, brothers Haywood Randle, Posie Randle and William Randle; sisters Evangeline Randle, Anne Turner and Angela Robinson; sons Leon, Neal and Donald Davis, Roy Randle and Darrell Chambers.

Those to cherish Mother Davis’s memory include: her sons, George Chambers (Linda), David Chambers (Gina), Leonard Davis (Amanda), Joe Davis, Charlie Davis, Lawrence Davis (Myrtle), Clint Davis (Jackie) and Raymond Davis; her daughters, Linda Knight, Peggy Wideman (Dennis), Donna Love (Donald), Betty Macklin, Shandra Horn (David), Gloria Nell Johnson (Tommy), Dorothy Collins and Janice Davis; the two grandchildren she raised, Lamonte Chambers (Donna) and Letarchia Durham; daughter-in-law Linda Randle; siblings Reuben Randle (Jean), Joseph Randle (Lois), Bernice Barge, Etta Ruth Boleware, Helen Wade, Myrtle Fowlks, Doris Randle and Thelma Hanson; and special friends Treon Erwin, Wanda Jones, Sandra Willard, Jesse Spence, Odie Ruth Williams and Bessie “Duggie” Williams; also Mother Davis found great joy in her 43 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren. A multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews will also remember Mother Davis for her love, teachings, and guidance.

Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street in Teague, is serving the Davis family.
