George E. Heggins Sr, 73, died in an accident on Sunday morning in Jewett. Mr. Heggins was a member of the Heggins Chapel MBC and former member of New Zion Baptist Church in Fairfield. He graduated from Carver High School in Jewett and Paul Quinn College in Waco. He worked over 20 years at Texas Utilities Power Plant “Big Brown” in Fairfield as a Plant Operator before taking early retirement.

He then worked as a Brakeman and Conductor for the Burlington/Santa Fe Railroad until 2018. He took pride in serving as a Union Stewart and Safety Committee. Upon retiring, he returned to Jewett to continue running the family farm business.

George loved his family and being of service to the community. George loved to garden, fish and hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his friends talking and watching sports.

George was preceded in death by his parents Dave Heggins and Velma Thomas Heggins and four siblings: Jerry Neal Heggins, Davis Heggins, Will Ray Heggins and Mattie Heggins Lloyd.

He leaves behind to cherish and share his memory his children: Catrina Heggins, George (Tawnya) Heggins and Christopher (Deandra) Heggins of Houston. Christopher Daniel Palmer of Big Spring.

His grandchildren: Demetri Hubbard, Adrian Beaty, Saela Wright, George Heggins III, Taylor Heggins and Kylee Heggins all of Houston. His great-grandson: Maxton Franklin-Heggins of Houston. His siblings: Percy Heggins of Marquez; Inez Clark and Curtis (Martha) Heggins of Tyler and Zeala Wilson of Dallas.

His uncles: John A. Thomas of Texas City, Walter (Edith Mae) Thomas and Robert Earl Thomas of Center. His aunts: Mary K. Thomas of Philadelphia, PA and Debra Kay Thomas of Longview; His great cousin: Margaret Heggins of Jewett and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
