Dennis Preston Cooper

Dennis Preston Cooper of Mexia passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Parkview Regional Hospital at age 63.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joshua Blackmon and the Rev. Steve Davis officiating, followed by cremation and a private family interment to be held at a later date.

Dennis was born Oct.21, 1955, to Edward Earl Cooper and Fairy Lee (Blackmon) Cooper in Kountz. He was a machinest, retired from the Limestone Power Plant.

Dennis was united in marriage with Pamela Diane Jones on Jan. 17, 1975.

Dennis Cooper never met a stranger. He was a friendly face to everyone and his smile was just the beginning to his wonderful sense of humor. Dennis was a devoted Houston Astros fan. He enjoyed grilling outside, fixing cars, and hanging out in his garage watching football. He was a jack of all trades and there was no job too big or too small. he doted on them every chance he could. Dennis loved to tell stories and he captured your attention from the first story right down to the last. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leon Cooper, Harold Cooper and Gerald Cooper; and sister, Fannie Viola Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Diane Cooper of Mexia; son, Darren Keith Cooper of Mexia; son, Matthew Dean Cooper of Portland, Oregon; and son, Jeffrey Daniel Cooper of Mexia; two sisters, Ruby Edwards of Houston and Carolyn Saintes of Houston; six brothers, Lloyd Cooper of Houston, Glen Cooper of Lumberton, Billy Cooper of Houston, Terry Cooper of Channelview, Raymond Cooper of Houston, and Wayne Cooper of Liberty; and all his baby girls.

He enjoyed his daily trips into town to make his rounds visiting with everyone he saw. Dennis had a way of making people feel special whether it was a cashier at the store, a teller at the bank, or an old buddy from the Light Company. Dennis enjoyed spending the day with his dog, Selena, and his grand-pup, Kirby. But his number one love was his wife and three sons. He took pride in his marriage and gave 100 percent of himself to his wife every day. He taught his sons to be men and how to treat a lady, how to be proud of where they came from, and
