While the virus restrictions have kept many Mexia residents from work, the renovations on Gibbs Memorial Library have continued and workers have made significant strides, according to Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty.
With non-essential businesses shuttered by the state of Texas, some shops in Mexia have had to get creative during the down time.
Jason Ellis puts a bag of food in a vehicle during a food giveaway in the parking lot of Mexia First Assembly church Thursday afternoon. Ellis said all 100 bags of food were given out in 40 minutes. He said cars began lining up an hour before the 5 p.m. giveaway and by 5 cars were lined up down North Ross Avenue past McBay Elementary. Ellis said food will be distributed as it is collected. The military is tentatively scheduled to provide drivethrough COVID-19 testing Thursday, April 30, at the Groesbeck Fire Department, according to Matt Groveton, Limestone County Emergency Management coordinator.
Several local businesses are working together to select a local front-line worker for National Superhero Day, and they are asking people to help them by nominating someone they think is a good candidate.
