Cities and towns in the Bistone area of Limestone and Freestone counties received checks that were mostly in the black, since they reflected February sales by businesses that report tax monthly – before May’s anticipated drop due to March’s coronavirus restrictions and June’s expected cratering of sales receipt returns due to what amounted to the near closure of the economy in April because of the near shelter-in-place orders of many counties, including Limestone and Freestone.
While the virus restrictions have kept many Mexia residents from work, the renovations on Gibbs Memorial Library have continued and workers have made significant strides, according to Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty.
With non-essential businesses shuttered by the state of Texas, some shops in Mexia have had to get creative during the down time.
