Wanda Givens said she was unhappy at her previous job so she created her own business, Nirvana Sno, a Hawaiian shave ice and ice cream stand located at 1123 E. Milam in Mexia.

Mexia Independent School District is increasing safety and security measures across all campuses following an active shooter situation at Mexia High School on May 16 and the Uvalde school shooting May 24, when a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers.
Families sat on truck tailgates, picnic blankets and lawn chairs to view the firework show once the sun went down over Hughes City Park, closing out the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce annual “Boomin’ on the 4th” Independence Day celebration.
