Many businesses in Mexia are adjusting their hours in the effort to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus, especially in light of Gov. Greg Abbott’s declaration Thursday closing all schools, gyms, bars and the dining rooms of all restaurants in Texas, effective midnight Friday, March 20. Abbott is encouraging restaurants to continue to sell their food, however, using takeout, drive-through or curbside service.
Mexia City Council passed a temporary emergency ordinance declaring an emergency and imminent threat of disaster in the city due to the coronavirus and closed all city facilities and canceled all city events, effective Wednesday, March 18, at 8 a.m.
On the first day Mexia ISD provided food for students in a drive-thru format, 390 meals were distributed on Wednesday.
Several Limestone County officials, city officials and hospital representatives gathered Thursday night at the commissioners courtroom to discuss countywide responses to the COVID-19 virus.
