Freestanding emergency rooms may now provide care for Medicare, Medicaid patients

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, known as CMS, made a change in its policies on April 21 to allow licensed, independent freestanding emergency departments in Texas and three other states to temporarily provide care to Medicare and Medicaid patients to ensure those states have increased hospital capacity for their most vulnerable citizens, the elderly.
