When Mexia restaurateur Stephen Friday was temporarily sidelined by the coronavirus restrictions, he had time to think about his business, Joe Friday’s Diner, and decided to start using a local farm and orchard to obtain the produce he needed at the restaurant.
The spirit of the marching and demonstrating and protests that have played out across the nation the past 11 days since George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis came to Mexia late Wednesday afternoon.

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott on May 26 issued a proclamation giving the green light to more services and activities in a second phase of the state’s plan to reopen from mandatory pandemic closures.
The Mexia Lions are doing their part to get life back to normal by planning their annual Red, White and Blue Car Show on July 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Mexia.
