Saturday, Dec. 14

Noon – The Dunbar-Douglass Alumni Association will have a special, called meeting at 318 E. Main (temporary location of Gibbs Memorial Library). All former Dunbar-Douglass attendees as well as their descendants are encouraged to come and take part in this important called meeting.

Monday, Dec. 16

6:30-8 p.m. – The Mexia Garden Club’s Outdoors Christmas Lighting Contest will be held. Two local homes will be recognized for outstanding holiday decor. Plaques will be presented for Most Traditional and Most Creative decorations. Be sure to leave your Christmas lights on that night.

Friday, Dec. 20

1:30-4:30 p.m. – Parkview Regional Hospital will hold a community blood drive with Carter BloodCare oon the Carter Blood-Care bus, which will be parked in the south parking lot of the hospital. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you prefer an appointment time, contact Jennifer Lynch at 254-562-0408, Ext. 1110.

Mondays, 6-8 p.m. – First Baptist Church of Tehuacana hosts a knitting/crocheting group knitting or crocheting prayer shawls or lap robes for people. Anyone wanting to learn to knit or crochet is invited. There is no cost, and yarn is provided. For more information, contact Angela Bailey at 409-782-0229.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, noon-4 p.m. – Veterans who need someone to talk to are invited to come by VFW Post 4694, 317 S. MLK Highway, in Mexia, noon-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to talk to a volunteer who will listen.

Tuesdays, 6 p.m. – Coolidge FUMC invites the public to meet for barbecue, music and the Word at Mookie’s Mesquite Patch Barbecue, 102 N. First Street in Coolidge. All are welcome at no charge.

Third Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. - regular meetings for the Mexia City Council are held at City Hall, 101 N. McKinney in Mexia. Called meetings are held at times and dates as the need arises.

Thursdays, 6:30 to 7 a.m. – Men’s nondenominational Prayer Breakfast held for fellowship and prayer with Christian men in the area. It is also a great way to meet folks in the community. For more information and location, which varies, contact Skip at skipwade@hughes.net or 254-729-8045.
