Sims to shift to remote learning to end of week

Mexia News Staff Report

Mexia ISD has chosen to keep R.Q. Sims Intermediate School closed through the end of the week, until Monday, Nov. 16, “out of an abundance of caution” since some additional adult COVID-19 cases have been reported. No additional student cases have been reported over the last week.

Sims had been planned to be closed Monday and Tuesday for deep cleaning, but the additional closed days are intended to prevent transmission of not only COVID-19 but other common diseases, such as flu, strep and colds. Deep cleaning took place over the weekend and was to be repeated Monday night.

The school will continue to offer lunches for Sims students, which may be picked up in the drive-though line from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day this week.

Technology and learning materials may be picked up Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Those picking up lunches, technology or learning materials are asked to:

• Use the bus lane in front of Sims, where someone will be in front of the cafeteria to help;

• Stay in your car;

• You will need to know your student’s homeroom teacher;

• If you need wireless hotspots, they are available, one per family.

“The choice to close the building to students never comes easily,” a District representative said, “but the choice is being made to ensure student health and safety.”
