Body found near Mexia ID'd as missing Waco man

Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers and the Waco Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into a dead body found shortly after noon Thursday on CR 462 off Belknap Street, about six miles south of Mexia.

Willie Rhodes, 55, who was reported missing Monday, Jan.10, was identified by members of the Waco PD. He was last seen at 6:20 a.m. Sunday leaving his work from a Cefco gas station in Waco. Later his white Honda Accord was recovered in Coolidge.

At the time Rhodes was reported missing, Waco PD officers said they had reason to believe Rhodes was in “immediate danger,” but no explanations as to why were given.

No other details have been shared by the investigating officers, including who or how his body was discovered. Although the Mexia Police Department was made aware of the incident, it has not been involved in the investigation thus far.

Limestone Sheriff Murray Agnew was not available for comment.
