Two Mexia softball players earned superlative awards and five others were first-team selections on the All-District 18-4A team for the 2018 season.
Junior Erica Beldin was voted the Pitcher of the Year and freshman Jennifer Williams earned Newcomer of the Year honors for the Ladycats, who finished second in district play.
Beldin pitched in 19 games for the Ladycats and finished with an overall record of 8-8. Her season earned-run average was 6.51, but it was significantly lower against district competition. In 99 total innings, Beldin struck out 80 and walked 59.
Williams, a freshman shortstop, batted a team-leading .558 and hit five of Mexia’s nine home runs. She also led the team with 26 runs scored and was tied for the team lead with 29 hits. More than half her hits went for extra bases. In addition to her round-trippers, she had seven doubles and four triples. She also stole 13 bases and drove in 14 runs.
