Blackcats slump with third loss in a row; still have shot at playoffs

The Mexia News staff reports
The Mexia baseball team lost a 12-2 decision to state-ranked Madisonville in Mexia Tuesday night. That was the same score by which Madisonville beat Mexia in their first game.
The loss was the third in a row for the Blackcats, who are in fourth place in District 18-4A with a 2-4 record. They are 7-10-1 overall.
Madisonville, which is ranked No. 18 in the state, improved to 6-0 in district.
Mexia is a half-game behind third-place Palestine (2-3 district). The teams have split their two games this season.
Mexia drew first blood against Madisonville when JR Deichler lofted a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and get the Blackcats on the board in the first inning.
