Yellowjackets win 60th straight district contest; Lady ’Jackets fall

Jordan Brown scored 27 points and Torrey Hoover hit 24 as the Coolidge Yellowjackets defeated the Abbott Panthers 81-61 to score their fifth consecutive district crown and their 60th straight win in district with two games remaining.
Coolidge shot out to a 24-9 lead in the first period but Abbott settled down and outscored the Yellowjackets in the second, 21-19, cutting the Black and Gold’s advantage going into halftime by two, 43-30.
Brown took charge in the third period for the Yellowjackets, scoring nine of Coolidge’s 18 points in the quarter.
Coolidge pushed their lead up to 61-42 with one period left in the game.
The Yellowjackets went bucket-for-bucket with the Panthers in the final quarter of play, but still outscored Abbott 20-19 to win by 20.
Juan Acevedo and Roman Benjamin hit double-digit totals with 11 points apiece. Manny Rivera scored six and Keauntee Driver finished with two for the Yellowjackets. The team hit six, three pointers in the win as well.
