What an exciting Friday night it was in Palestine as the No. 23 ranked Mexia Ladycats moved into a first-place tie with the Fairfield Lady Eagles after beating Palestine’s Lady Wildcats 50-41.
Mexia trailed by one at the end of the first period, 13-12, as both teams mirrored each other offensively and defensively.
In the second period, Palestine’s Jaila Cook scored the first points to give her team a 15-12 lead, then a free throw by teammate Kayla Smith made it a four-point game.
Keiana Keith came back with a bigtime three-pointer to move Mexia back to within one with 5:41 left in the period.
Keith scored again less than a minute later to put the Ladycats up by one, 17-16.
Palestine scored the next three points, then Keith hit on a two-and-one, followed by another three-point bomb to shift the advantage back in the Ladycats’ favor, 23-19, with 27 seconds to go before halftime.
