The Coolidge Yellowjackets continue to blow through district competition and Friday night’s game was no different, as they blew past the Aquilla Cougars on the road, 67-37.
Coolidge - ranked No. 22 in Class 1A - took an 18-7 lead at the end of the first period, led by seven points from Juan Acevedo. In the second, the Yellowjacket offense continued to pour in the points as Roman Benjamin knocked in 10 during the period, helping give Coolidge a commanding 40-14 lead at the half.
Aquilla perked up a little offensively in the third, outscoring Coolidge 13-12, but the Yellowjackets were still in control at the quarter’s end, leading by 25.
In the fourth, three-pointers by Acevedo, Roderick Busby and Jordan Brown contributed to the Yellowjackets closing out the game with the 30-point win.
Benjamin led all scorers with 18, followed by Acevedo finishing with 16 and Manny Rivera quietly scored 10, rounding out the Coolidge players scoring in double figures. Brown wound up with nine points in the win, Torrey Hoover chipped in eight, Busby scored four, and both Keauntee Driver and Colton Carter made free throws.
