The Mexia High School cheerleaders started more than four dozen little Mexia girls on the way to becoming Blackcat cheerleaders when they held a cheer clinic at the high school gym Saturday.
Fifty girls attended, from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. They were divided into three groups by grade: pre-k through kindergarten, first through second grades, and third through fifth grades, with each group being led by several varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders.
The teens taught the young girls the different cheers and showed them how to perform them.
The clinic ran from 9 a.m. to noon, with a snack break. The culmination of the morning was a performance for the young ones’ parents at 11:30 in the gym.
