Thanks to the fire departments

Dear Editor,
On Monday Jan. 4, my youngest daughter had surgery at Children's Hospital in Dallas. She was scheduled for a follow up visit with her surgeon on Friday, Jan. 8.[160] My wife, two daughters and I were driving to Dallas on Friday when we got a call that our storage building was on fire.
This is a letter of appreciation for the Mexia and Groesbeck Fire Departments and their personnel, for all they do to make our world safer. Groesbeck and Mexia both sent fire trucks, and Limestone EMS responded with an ambulance.
It is a funny feeling being told something is on fire when you are some distance away. I surmised our daughters' 4H turkeys -- which were housed in a stock trailer in the building -- had somehow either knocked over a heat lamp or it had shorted out. The temperatures were in the teens.
The turkeys were, unfortunately, a loss. They were even bagged up and taken away before we arrived, as some felt the site of them would upset my two girls, who had worked hard raising them. I truly appreciate the professionalism and concern for my daughters' well-being.
We did not arrive back home until the situation was well under control. By that time, some folks had left. I tried to personally thank all those who were still there. If I tried naming names, I know I would leave someone out, but I know there were personnel present from the Groesbeck, Mexia and Thornton Fire Departments, Limestone EMS, Limestone County Sheriff's Office and many others. I am very proud and thankful for all these folks did for me and continue to do for so many others. My family, especially me, owes them so much for their time and attention.
All things considered, we were very fortunate. My in-laws, who spotted the fire, I knew were safe, as they had called us. The three things which were the most precious and valuable to me -- my wife Bonnie, and daughters Haley and Hannah -- were in the car with me on the way to Dallas. I knew everything else could be replaced. We were very blessed in that there was not too much damage. It could have been much worse.
Being in public service, I know there are times when what is done for us is taken for granted and perhaps "Thank You" is not said enough. Next time you see an ambulance, squad car or fire engine, give them a wave, and say thanks. If they are running with lights and siren, say a prayer for those courageous men and women behind the wheel, along with those they are going to help. I know they appreciate it.
My heartfelt thanks for providing great service to our county.
Sincerely,
