Mexia track teams finish fourth at Eagle Relays

    The Mexia boys and girls track teams each placed fourth at the Eagle Relays in Fairfield on Thursday.
    The event coordinators decided to let the junior high divisions compete in the meet with the junior varsity and varsity teams which created a bit of a snafu.
    The JV and varsity running events were supposed to commence around 6:00 p.m. They actually got started around 7:45 p.m. In order to get most or all of the events in, some races combined the JV and varsity runners into the same event. The junior high athletes did the same with seventh and eighth grade.
    The Mexia varsity boys team tied with Athens for fourth place with a score of 97. Crockett came in first with 139 points followed by Fairfield (108) and Corsicana (105).
    The Blackcat varsity boys had four first place finishes at the meet.
    Eddie Jones finished two seconds in front of the pack to win the 800m run with a time of 2:18.00 followed by Prosper of Athens with 2:20.00 and Solomon of Corsicana with 2:29.00.
    Doug Gentry won the 200m dash with a time of 22.57 just in front of teammate Trent Mack who recorded a time of 22.62. Finishing in third was Castillo of Fairfield (23.37).
    D.J. Robinson won the 300m hurdles with a mark of 43.61. Jay Roberson of Fairfield finished second with a time of 43.87 followed by Mexia’s Davonta Foreman with a 43.94 mark.
    The 4x200m relay of Afrem Banks, Darion Glasco, Broderick Reeves and Jeramee Strain took the top spot with a time of 1:33.17. Crockett finished second with a 1:33.50 mark and Corsicana took the third spot with a time of 1:34.55.
    In the 100m dash, Mexia finished third and fourth with Trent Mack (11.01) and Jeramee Strain (11.04), respectively. Taking the top spot was Hines of Corsicana (10.91) followed by Handsborough of Crockett (10.92).
    Mexia’s best finish in the field events came from Devin Threat who placed second in the discus with a mark of 116-feet-9 1/2. Eli Pratt of Fairfield finished first with a mark of 132-feet-9 and Richardson of Athens finished third (116-feet-7).
    Also participating for Mexia were:
    400m dash: Fifth place - Eddie Jones 55.88, 6th place - Mister Carroll 56.16
    3,200m run: Fourth place - Ivan Marez 11:39.00, 6th place - Junior Sarabia 12:22.48
    4x100m relay: Fifth place - Mexia (Jeramee Strain, Davonta Foreman, Darion Glasco, Alaric Strain)
    Shot put: Fifth Place - Ahnre’ Gray 39-feet-0
    Triple jump: Sixth place - Mister Carroll 39-feet-3 1/2
    The Mexia varsity girls team participated in their first meet of the year, finishing the Eagle Relays in fourth place with a score of 53. Fairfield finished in first with 198 points followed by Palestine (141) and Corsicana (108).
    Ashley Johnson recorded Mexia’s only first place finish of the meet. She won the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.81. Fellow Ladycat Destiny Forge finished 2nd with a mark of 103.82 and Henry of Westwood finished third with 1:06.87. Ariel Ballard finished fifth for Mexia with a 28.15 mark.
    Another second place finish was garnered by Asha dansby in the 200m dash with a mark of 26.64. Derekia Coleman of Fairfield took the top spot with a 26.31 mark and Ballard of Corsicana finished third with 27.95.
    Dansby also finished fourth in the 100m dash with a 13.06 mark. Smith of Corsicana won with a 12.39 mark followed by Coleman of Fairfield (12.44) and Owens of Corsicana (13.04).
    Mexia’s 4x100m relay team of Brittany Bluitt, Kianna Anthony, Ariel Ballard and Taylor Ballard finished third with a time of 51.40 behind Corsicana (49.71) and Palestine (50.90).
    Mexia’s 4x200m relay team of Taylor Ballard, Kiara Robinson, Dynasty Anderson and Ariel Ballard came in fourth with a 1:52.31 mark behind Corsicana (1:49.61), Fairfield (1:49.79) and Palestine (151.64).
    The Mexia junior varsity girls finished third at the meet with 81 points — garnering five first place finishes. Groesbeck won the meet with 152 points followed by Westwood with 129.
    Mexia’s Aliyah Ranson finished first in the 100m dash with time of 13.42 followed by Brown of Corsicana (13.92) and Crane of Groesbeck (13.99). Mexia’s Quanisha Hudson finished fourth (14.00) and Gigi Greer finished sixth (14.39).
     Ykeisha Stevenson of Mexia finished first in the 800m run with a 2:43.00 mark in front of Grafton of Groesbeck (2:47.00) and Vinson of Westwood (2:55.00).
    Mexia’s 4x100m relay team of Quanisha Hudson, Qe’Shea King,  Aliyah Ranson and Tammy Adams finished first with a mark of 53:59.00 followed by Groesbeck (55:58.00) and Westwood (56:35.00).
    The Ladycats 4x200m relay team of Aliyah Ranson, Qe’Shea King, Tammy Adams and Kendall Gipson came in first with a time of 1:57.69 followed by Corsicana (1:59.45) and Westwood (1:59.68).
    Myrtle Ravnell of Mexia finished first in the 100m hurdles with a mark of 20.79. Kaitlyn of Groesbeck finished second with 22.27 and Higgins of Fairfield finished third with 22.45.
